Chapel of the Holy CrossHome > About Sedona > Things to Do > Chapel of the Holy Cross![]() ![]() Marguerite Brunswig Staude, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, designed this church after being inspired by viewing a cross as she gazed on the Empire State Building, in 1932. The chapel was built in 1957 and rises 200 feet from the ground between two large red rock formations. Its beauty owes as much to sculpture as it does to architecture. One of its most distinctive features is a 90-foot cross, which can be seen from the ground along Hwy 179. Over 25,000 tons of rock were removed to build the structure. |
